After the two long-standing rivals in the region established a cease-fire in March with China’s help, a spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated on Monday that Iran has officially invited the monarch of Saudi Arabia to visit the country.

After years of dreadful ties that stoked proxy wars around the Middle East and saw Tehran and Riyadh supporting opposing forces from Yemen to Syria, the two countries reached an agreement to end their seven-year diplomatic rift.

Nasser Kanaani said in a televised news conference that the Saudi monarch received an invitation from Riyadh in exchange for the Iranian president (Ebrahim Raisi) sending one to him.

Both technical delegations are getting ready to formally re-launch their missions, and Tehran said that these missions would resume operations by May 9, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News agency.
