A mayor in southern Mexico married a female crocodile in an ancient tradition for the prosperity of his townspeople.
Victor Hugo Sosa, the mayor of the town of San Pedro, married Alicia Adriana, a female crocodile. Traditional rites were also arranged at the wedding and the mayor swore allegiance to a female crocodile called ‘Princess’.
He recited the traditional lines that ‘we love each other and I accept this responsibility, we cannot marry without love and I declare marriage to the princess’.
He said that this marriage will bring prosperity to my people and I am very happy to keep this ancient tradition alive.
Before the wedding ceremony, the female crocodile was taken from house to house so that the locals could dance with it in their arms. The female crocodile was made a bride in a traditional manner.
